So here’s what I think: Divorce happens to the best of us and to the worst of us. I read today that Bill and Melinda Gates are getting divorced. My first thought, who cares? But on reflection, I begin to think that perhaps there was something to learn from a man who is one of the few American, self-made billionaires. One of the first quotes, attributed to the family lawyer, “if it was about the money,” Kessler said, “they’d stay married. People that have extraordinary wealth, have it for a reason,” Kessler added. “They know what not to waste money on, and what not to be in the press about. Divorce is not something to waste money on.”
This might very well be lesson 1.
The Gates are extremely intelligent people who have managed to stay married for twenty-seven years, which, in and of itself is monumental. Let’s see how it plays out. I think I will keep watching. After all, I love watching money moves. This one promises to be interesting.
That’s what I think. How about you?
